Teaching 630 students this February 2025 over 2 days was very fulfilling & explored areas about myself I didn't know I could do.

I paint landscapes that explore the relationship between place, memory and history. Working primarily in oil, I am interested in how the British landscape carries traces of human ambition, power and identity, where architecture, nature and time quietly coexist.My practice is rooted in observation, yet it extends beyond realism. I use light, atmosphere and layered colour to reveal the emotional presence of a landscape rather than simply recording its appearance. The familiar becomes a space for reflection, inviting viewers to consider what lies beneath the surface of seemingly tranquil scenes. As a British-Indian artist, I am particularly interested in the lasting dialogue between Britain and the Indian subcontinent. The landscapes and architecture I paint are shaped by centuries of cultural exchange, migration, commerce and empire. Rather than presenting historical narratives directly, I allow these influences to emerge subtly through composition, atmosphere and symbolism, encouraging viewers to contemplate how history continues to inhabit the environments we occupy today.Painting is a process of slowing down. Each work develops through multiple layers, allowing time to become part of the image itself. The resulting paintings balance precision with sensitivity, where realism serves as a means of conveying emotion, memory and permanence rather than photographic accuracy.Ultimately, my work seeks to create spaces of contemplation. I hope my paintings encourage viewers to pause, reconnect with the landscape, and recognise that every place holds stories that extend far beyond what is immediately visible.
